World War II Marine base and future site of the UC Santa Barbara campus: view of barracks

A view of the World War II barracks, as they existed when the University developed the Goleta mesa site. Barracks like these were turned into classrooms, laboratories, and offices. This photograph appears to have been taken in the current area of South Hall; the buildings pictured would have housed military science department and additional physical education spaces, since the gymnasium would have been located immediately to the west of the row of trees. Currently, buildings of this type house the offices of Arts & Lectures, a portion of El Centro, the Ergo lab, and other offices.
